Disney World is going to be HOT this weekend.
While hot temperatures are noting new for Central Florida – – in fact, the subtropical climate is one of the major reasons that Walt Disney zeroed in on the Orlando area during the initial planning stages of the “Florida Project” that would one day become Walt Disney World – – the next few days are offering temperatures that are extreme even by the area’s normal standards.
According to the Weather Channel, this weekend the Orlando area will see consistent temperatures in the high 90s. Furthermore, the “RealFeel” temperatures – – an estimation that takes into account the effects of multiple parameters, including air temperature, wind speed, solar intensity, humidity, precipitation intensity/type, elevation and atmospheric pressure” – – estimates that some portions of the weekend may actually feel over 100 degrees.
Temperatures like these turn the heat from a nuisance to a real danger during a trip to Walt Disney World. If you’re headed to the parks this weekend, make sure to take all the necessary steps to mitigate the head as much as possible. These include:
Wearing comfortable, light clothing.
Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Wearing sunglasses, a cap, and SPF lotion to shield from the sun.
Carrying a small fan and cooling towel for relief while sitting in a long line.
Staying in shaded and air-conditioned areas as much as you can, even in queue lines if possible.
Also, listen to your body. As tempting as it can be to try and “gut it out” to “make your money’s worth” from your Disney day, it’s not worth your health. Take breaks in the shade and air-conditioned areas, and if you need to need to tap out on a long line, or even a whole park day, do so if it’s the best option for your health. Once again, it’s not worth suffering heatstroke or worse, not even to experience your preview of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
The temperatures at Walt Disney World this weekend will be punishing, and you’re planning to be at the parks, be safe and smart regarding the heatwave. Stay tuned to DFB for more Walt Disney World weather updates.
