Whew! What a week! Let’s just say this was THE week everyone was talking about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The new ride, which will officially open to the public in Magic Kingdom on June 28th, has been a hot topic of conversation, especially after Disney dropped the very first ride through video where we got to see the WHOLE ride. We got to hear all the music, see every scene, and had our minds BLOWN by the gorgeous dress Tiana wears in the ride’s finale. However, the video did confirm one key detail about the ride, too.

We spent a lot of time watching Imagineers working on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and checked out the exterior of the ride almost every day it was under construction (yes, we’re a little obsessed). One thing that we noticed early on was around the big drop, where you can see tons of greenery and flowers and Mama Odie’s glass bottles. But we also noticed that a large rock that had once been part of Splash Mountain had been removed.

Something is missing

By comparison, here’s what the rock formations on Splash Mountain looked like at the top of the plunge.

Here’s a side-by-side comparison:

So, what’s the big deal about a rock? Okay, so here’s the thing, from the other side, while you were riding Splash Mountain, that rock formed a Hidden Mickey on Splash Mountain. So, if you were quick to look, you would see that this rock formed a Mickey head just before the big splash.

Hidden Mickey

Thanks to the ride-through video Disney has posted, we can now confirm that this Hidden Mickey is gone, and you won’t see it when riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. As you can see, there’s nothing there where the Mickey rock used to be.

It’s just a little detail, but we’re sure Imagineers decided that rock didn’t fit in with the new aesthetic of the ride, which is supposed to take the place in the bayou. The details on the ride are all softer now, more swampy and bayou-like, so it seems like the Hidden Mickey had to go.

That’s not to say there might not be other Hidden Mickeys on the ride. We have a feeling we’ll spot a few somewhere because Imagineers love to hide those things anywhere and everywhere, right?

We’ll be riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure soon during early previews of the ride, and we’ll be in Magic Kingdom on the ride’s opening day, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more.
