Are you heading to Disney World soon?

Magic Kingdom

Planning your trip can be so exciting, and once you arrive, there is so much to do that you may forget some important tips. We have all been there before, and we wish we had done something differently during our trip to Disney World, but this does not have to be you! We reached out to our team of Disney experts to see what tips they think you should not forget the next time you go to Disney World!

There are so many tips and tricks to make your vacation to Disney World easier and more enjoyable, and we have so many resources both on our site and on our YouTube channel! Now to our list!

Download the My Disney Experience App

We know that you don’t want to spend your vacation with your head down and looking at your phone, but downloading the My Disney Experience app before you leave for your trip can help make your vacation so much easier!

The app can do so much, here are some highlights:

You can unlock your room door without the need for a physical room key
You can make Advance Dining Reservations
You can Mobile Order, so you do not have to wait in a physical line to order your food
You can buy Genie+ and book Lightning Lane selections
You can even find where the free water bottle refill stations are around the parks

This app can do so much and making sure you have it on your phone before you arrive can make your trip be smoother.

If you are worried about being on your phone too much, you can always split who is in charge of what. You can place one person in charge of Mobile Orders, one person can be in charge of selecting your Lightning Lanes if you choose to purchase Genie+, and one person can be in charge of checking the hours of operation for parks, attractions, entertainment, and restaurants. The list goes on and on.

Bring Rain Gear

Unfortunately, it does rain quite a bit in Florida, especially in the summertime. Don’t let a rain shower get in the way of your trip! Remember to pack rain gear before you leave!

Ponchos and umbrellas sold at the parks can be expensive. Bringing them from home can save you money and the stress of having to go out in the rain to purchase the rain gear when that summer shower starts.

As a tip we also recommend bringing a hat with you to wear underneath your poncho or rain jacket to keep the rain off your face and to help you see better.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

When visiting the parks you will be doing A LOT of walking, and we mean A LOT, so get ready to track those steps! Since you will spend the majority of the day on your feet, you will want to make sure you get a comfortable pair of walking shoes before you leave for your trip.

Crowds walking on Main Street

Our reporters like to wear shoes like Chacos, Hokas, or On Clouds to the parks to relieve stress on their feet.

Hydrate and Wear Sunscreen

Florida is HOT and like we said you will be doing a lot of walking on your trip and spend quite a bit of time outside. Take care of your body and make sure to hydrate and drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen!

Stay hydrated!

If you forget your sunscreen at home, you can always purchase it at the Disney World hotel gift shops. If you are visiting the water parks, the gift shops there also have sunscreen.

Wear sunscreen and drink water even if it is a cloudy day. We want you to enjoy your trip without getting sunburnt!

Sunscreen is your friend!

Free Water in the Parks

We know we just told you to hydrate so of course we are going to let you in on a not-so-little secret. Did you know that you can get FREE water at Disney World? That is right!

Don’t forget your free water

At most quick-service dining locations you can ask a Cast Member for a cup of ice water. They will either hand you the water themselves or sometimes there are water stations set up.

Did you bring your own water bottle? You can actually refill it in the parks at one of the many refill stations located throughout all the parks. Remember when we mentioned some of the highlights of the My Disney Experience app? The app can show you a map of where these refill stations are making it even easier for you to fill your bottle!

Take Rest Days

With all this walking in the Florida heat, you are going to get tired, and that is okay! You are on vacation so wanting to rest and relax is completely normal!

Take a day to rest at the pool!

If time allows, we recommend planning a rest day or two during your trip. These days are a great way to catch up on sleep, spend time at the pool, or even check out some of the other hotels! Your feet will thank you!

Pool days are a great way to spend your vacation!

If you don’t have time to add rest days to your trip, you could always take a mid-day break. Head back to your hotel for a nap or spend the afternoon in the pool. Another great mid-day break is planning a meal at a hotel near the park. For example, if you are in Magic Kingdom, you can take the monorail over to one of the three monorail hotels and grab a bite to eat in the AC!

Set an Alarm to Make Lightning Lane Selections

If you plan to purchase Genie+, you will get to make new Lightning Lane selections either every 120 minutes or when you use your latest selection (this only works if you only have one selection made.)

Everything You Need to Know about Genie, Genie+, and Lightning Lane

For example, let’s say you make a Lightning Lane Selection for Tower of Terror at 10 AM and your return time is 2 PM, you can make a new selection at 12 PM.

Tower of Terror

Or, let’s say you make a Lightning Lane selection for Haunted Mansion at 9 AM and your return time is 9:30 AM. You can make a new Lightning Lane selection once you scan in.

As soon as you make a selection, make sure to set an alarm to remind yourself of when you should make your next selection. This will help ensure you can get as many Lightning Lane selections as you will be picking new ones as soon as your window opens.

Ask PhotoPass Cast Members to Also Take Pictures on Your Phone

Of course, you will want to take a lot of photos to remember your trip to Disney World and look back on all the magical memories you made!

PhotoPass Cast Member

If you do not want to pay for your PhotoPass photos, that is totally okay! You can still wait in line for a photo or a character with a PhotoPass Cast Member. Simply let the Cast Member take your photo with their camera and then politely ask them to also take a photo on your phone.

This is a great way to ensure your whole family is in the picture so someone does not have to sit out to be the one to take it. It also means that you will not need to ask a stranger to take your phone.

Just remember to be kind when you ask, and the Cast Member will be happy to take the picture on your own device!

Be Kind to Cast Members

Speaking of asking Cast Members, it is always important to treat Cast Members with kindness. Cast Members truly do make the magic and deserve to be treated kindly and with respect.

We know it can be frustrating when a ride goes down or when the ears you wanted sell out, but it is not the Cast Member’s fault. Kindness goes a long way, so make sure you treat Cast Members the way you wish to be treated.

Take It All In

It can be easy to get caught up in stress and worrying about making sure you are getting to do all your must-dos. But take a minute and relax. Take it all in. You are on vacation, and you deserve to enjoy it.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in making sure you are getting the Lightning Lane selections you want or trying to make sure everyone in your party gets to do what they want. Make sure to just breathe and take in your trip, we promise you’ll be happier!
