Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared on stage during the Disney Entertainment Showcase of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to release a new trailer for “Moana 2.” Cravalho also performed a new song from the sequel.

‘Moana 2’ Trailer & Details

The song is called “We’re Back” and sounds like it could be the opening of the film. Cravalho was joined by dancers on stage for the performance.

Johnson said, “Maui is singing again in keys that don’t exist and my hair looks fantastic.”

“Moana 2” will revolve around Moana looking for other tribes beyond the waters she’s sailed, and her relationship with her younger sister. It’s set three years after the original and the sister is three years old. The villain of the film is the “storm of all storms.”

“Moana 2” is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. Miller and Jared Bush penned the screenplay.

In addition to Cravalho and Johnson, “Moana 2” stars Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, and Alan Tudyk as Heihei.

Disney was originally planning a “Moana” sequel series for Disney+ but reworked it into a feature film, which they unexpectedly announced earlier this year.

“Moana” made over $680 million at the global box office and reached one billion hours streamed on Disney+ in 2023. A live-action remake of “Moana” is also in development, with Johnson returning as Maui and Cravalho serving as executive producer. Co-directors of the animated film, Ron Clements and John Musker, are not involved in the project.

“Moana 2” hits theaters on November 27, 2024.
