If you’re headed to the Disney Parks in search of great food, look no further than Disney California Adventure!

Disney California Adventure

Home to most of the Disneyland Resort’s festivals, California Adventure is the place to go if you’re in the market for interesting eats and limited-time snacks. Right now, the parks are celebrating Pixar Fest from April 26th through August 4th, 2024, with tons of Pixar fun like a new parade, themed merch, and special food offerings. Speaking of special food offerings, we recently stopped by California Adventure to try a NEW Pixar Fest dessert based on Pixar’s Inside Out!

Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta has gotten into the Pixar Fest spirit by previously selling an Anger Cheesecake, but now it’s honoring a different Inside Out character with the brand-new Sadness Cheesecake!

Sadness Cheesecake

This Pixar Fest cheesecake costs $6.99 and is served with cotton candy cheesecake with blue mousse and a blue memory orb.

You can pick this up at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta!

We were pleasantly surprised by this cheesecake! The cotton candy flavor is subtle at first but gets bolder with each bite. The box says the cotton candy flavor is natural — and we don’t really know how that’s possible — but in terms of flavor, the cotton candy doesn’t really feel as forced or artificially enhanced as we were expecting.

A great summer treat

Light, refreshing, and full of that sweet cotton candy flavor in every bite, this dessert never overpowered us but softly welcomed us back for another bite until we devoured the whole thing.

Graham cracker base

The tart at the bottom of the dessert had Disney’s typical Graham cracker flavor which provided a nice crumbly texture. The taste was also good, but still dominated by the cotton candy cheesecake. If the cheesecake flavor wasn’t as good, we’d probably have a bigger problem with this but we were too busy eating to care.

Seconds before it was devoured

We did have some minor complaints. The blue mousse didn’t provide much flavor outside of hints of cotton candy. It was like a pretty basic icing without any strong flavors — not good or bad, just there. The orb is also chocolate and wasn’t exactly the best quality of chocolate we’ve had at the park. However, once we dipped in the orb in the cheesecake it immediately tasted better.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by how light and perfectly sweet this new dessert is! We think its fair price and good flavor will appeal to many demographics. For us, this is a great summer treat, especially if you’re in the mood for a light snack or dessert after a hearty meal. If you don’t like cotton candy or a candy-inspired cheesecake, you might want to avoid this dessert. Otherwise, head on over to Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and give it a try!
