Ronald D. Moore, who had been developing “The Society of Explorers and Adventurers” and a “Swiss Family Robinson” reboot series for 20th Television, has signed a multi-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, according to Deadline.
‘The Society of Explorers and Adventurers’ Series Status Unclear as Ronald D. Moore Departs
Moore joined 20th Television in 2020 and immediately began developing multiple series for Disney. Two of the most notable projects he was developing for Disney+ were a “Swiss Family Robinson” reboot and “The Society of Explorers and Adventurers” series. He also worked on adapting “A Court of Thorns and Roses” for Hulu.
“The Society of Explorers and Adventurers” was announced in 2021 and planned to take the themed lands and characters from Disney Parks and classic films and bring them into reality. The series was to be set in the “Magic Kingdom Universe” and based on the fictional S.E.A. organization that first appeared in Fortress Explorations at Tokyo DisneySea. The fictional society has since grown in popularity thanks to its appearance in Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland and hidden references that appear at other attractions around Disney Parks. It is unclear if this project will move forward.
With Moore’s departure, it’s also unknown if any other projects he was developing will move forward. The “Swiss Family Robinson” reboot series was announced in 2020, but there has been very little information about the project since then.
Will you be disappointed if the previously announced S.E.A. series doesn’t come to fruition now that showrunner Ronald D. Moore has moved on? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
