On June 12, the second director attached to the “Blade” reboot, Yann Demange, left the project. He followed in the footsteps of Bassam Tariq, who was originally set to direct the film but departed in 2022. After the second departure, Snipes, who played the titular character in the original trilogy of films from 1998-2004, took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on the situation.

Blade, lordylordylordy folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough. Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they?

With the departure of Demange, the release date for “Blade” is almost certain to be pushed back again. The film was originally supposed to go into production in 2022 and be released on September 6, 2024. At the moment, the film is set to premiere on November 7, 2025.

The reboot was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali is still set to star as the titular character. He has been attached to the project since it was announced.

Though the original trilogy is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was the first Marvel franchise released in theaters. The trilogy went on to gross over $400 million. The reboot is expected to be released as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
