In a new document, Hong Kong Disneyland confirmed they will proceed with its multi-year expansion including attraction reimaginings and a Marvel-themed area.
Hong Kong Disneyland Marvel Expansion
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort recently released its financial results for FY23 and Q1 of FY24. The resort had a significant attendance boost and made record-breaking revenue.
According to Disney Magical Kingdom Blog, the document filed with the Legislative Council’s Economic Development Panel, Hong Kong Disneyland said they “will continue to roll out new offerings and enhance guest experience.” Given the successful launch of World of Frozen last year, they have begun preparing for the “Re-imagined” and “Marvel-themed” area projects. The document also mentions attraction enhancements, but no indication has been given as to what attractions could receive them.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort announced its multi-year expansion in November 2016. Plans included transforming much of Tomorrowland into Stark Expo, which already had the Iron Man Experience. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters was replaced by Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! in 2019. An E-ticket Avengers Quinjet attraction was announced, and Autopia closed to make way for it. The ride was scheduled to be completed by 2023 but there has been no news since 2019. The radio silence on the project was likely due to the financial instability of the resort related to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort revealed they had only spent about half of the funds allocated for their expansion. They celebrated Marvel this spring with a new drone show and stage show.
The Avengers Quinjet experience was also planned for Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure. It was ultimately canceled and Disney is now planning an Avengers multiverse attraction featuring King Thanos. It is assumed that Hong Kong Disneyland will get this ride as well, instead of the Quinjet attraction concept.
