A helicopter was spotted filming and/or taking photos above Walt Disney World on the morning of Thursday, June 13.
Helicopter Filming at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT
We spotted the helicopter with a camera mounted on its nose flying over Space Mountain. In addition to the camera on the front, a photographer was positioned at the side door.
The helicopter was reportedly flying over EPCOT before sunrise on Thursday morning. CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened on June 10 and Disney could have been getting new footage of the park at night now that the EPCOT reimagining is complete. Specifically, they could have been filming for a new finale to Soarin’ Around the World, which currently ends with an outdated shot of EPCOT.
The helicopter’s flight path over Magic Kingdom happened to be Mickey-shaped.
Guests also saw the helicopter near Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Whether filming for Soarin’ or not, it seems Disney is taking the opportunity to get new shots of all their parks. Flying below 3,000 feet over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT is usually restricted and has been since September 11, 2001.
See the current Soarin’ Around the World finale in our video below.
