A new mural by Houston artist Emily Ding is at the Disney Springs Art Walk for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

Ding’s new “Taking Flight” mural is on the Disney Springs Art Walk: A Canvas of Expression. The outdoor art walk launched in 2022 which showcases a rotating gallery of creative works by diverse artists.

“Taking Flight” features a rabbit hopping alongside flying birds, in a vibrant gradient of warm colors and green that blends with the real grass below. Ding said the piece is about possibility, opportunity, optimism, and “finding one’s own magic.”

When guests come here to Disney Springs and see my artwork, I really hope that they see the possibility of things that seem to be impossible.

Ding said she’s proud to be at Disney Springs for AAPI Heritage Month because “it’s so important to celebrate diversity.” She grew up on “Disney magic,” with animated Mulan as one of her few role models, and is honored, as an adult, “to be a representation of what we can achieve no matter what our backgrounds are.”

Walt Disney World Resort is also celebrating AAPI Heritage Month with special menu items at Disney Springs, theme parks, and hotels.
