Two people are dead and another two seriously hurt after a crash in Polk County late Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, troopers said the crash happened around 11:55 p.m. along US-17/92 near West James Street.

At the time, a Honda sedan was heading south on the highway, while a Nissan was driving north, troopers explained.

However, the Honda reportedly entered the northbound lane, crashing “nearly head-on” with the Nissan, the release shows.

Troopers said that both drivers and two passengers in the Nissan were seriously injured as a result and taken to the hospital.

The Nissan driver — identified only as a 37-year-old Kissimmee man — later died from his injuries, as well as one of the passengers, a 45-year-old Kissimmee woman, troopers noted.
