Florida Highway Patrol says a medical incident may have contributed to a crash that sent a vehicle into a daycare along Pine Hills Road.

According to a preliminary report, investigators believe the driver — a 79-year-old — suffered a medical event. FHP says it is also looking at driver re-examination, a process used to determine whether a driver should continue to hold a valid license.

The preliminary report indicates the driver was traveling south on Pine Hills Road before crossing the northbound lanes and crashing into the daycare.

FHP says four children and one adult were inside the daycare at the time. All of the children were under 5 years old. A 4-year-old boy had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital. Three children were hospitalized and two of them have since been released.

Orlando Health confirmed that one child remains hospitalized and is in good condition.

On Thursday, the daycare building was boarded up, and county stickers posted outside indicated it has been condemned and is considered unsafe.A van was parked in front of the building to prevent anyone from entering.

FHP also said the two adults involved have been released from the hospital. Investigators expect the full crash report to be available in about nine days.

What we’re still working to learn

  • Whether the driver has any prior medical restrictions or previous re-examination history (if releasable)
  • Whether any citations will be issued
  • If the daycare will temporarily relocate and what parents should do
