A 5-year-old from Brevard County died on Monday after he drowned in a pool at an Airbnb, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, an OCSO spokesperson said that deputies responded to the Airbnb off Takeaway Way in Davenport shortly after 1 p.m. for the child, who was located at the bottom of the pool.

Deputies said the child had been attending a birthday party with family and friends.

“Deputies began life-saving measures on the unconscious child by performing CPR until fire rescue arrived on scene,” the release reads. “The 5-year-old male child was transported to Celebration Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”

Afterward, homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate, the OCSO noted.

According to the report, an adult at the party, Willie Frye, 41, of Davenport, told deputies he had been seated on the covered patio while the children were swimming. A child alerted Frye that something was at the bottom of the deep end of the pool. Frye entered the water and pulled the child out.

The report also notes the pool water was heavily clouded, significantly reducing underwater visibility. Frye told deputies the boy did not know how to swim and typically wore inflatable arm floaties in the water.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified.

In connection with the incident, Frye was arrested on a violation of probation charge. Records show Frye is serving felony probation until 2030 for a prior cocaine possession conviction. It is not clear what condition of probation he is accused of violating.
