At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Walt Disney Imagineering revealed new concept art for Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land replacing Muppets Courtyard at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

Art was posted on a cork board in the Imagineering pavilion with fake sticky notes and decals representing different Monstropolis businesses. The top two pieces of art, depicting an overview of the land and Sulley inside the land, were previously released.

As we already shared, artwork of The Glob theater (formerly the MuppetVision 3D theater) revealed the show inside will be Welcome to Monstropolis with Sulley & Mike. This is our first clear rendering of the theater’s exterior. In addition to the marquee with the show name, a banner on the clock tower reads “Our Chamber of Commerce Welcomes You.”

Next to the theater art is what appears to be an actual photo of scale-inspired roof shingles, probably from a test for the land’s new finishings. The shingles are carried over to artwork of a rooftop bus stop for a winged monster. Another piece of art depicts a ground-level covered bus stop with two benches. This seems to correspond to a structure seen in the aerial concept art where the Studio 1 Company Store used to be.

Sticky notes in this area read, “Buildings + landscapes that reflect the unique environment of the monster world”. There’s a Monstropolis Transit Authority (MTA) sticker. A strip of photos features a lamppost and crosswalk sign, a monster, and the land’s fountain.

Across the center of the cork board, under “Designing on Monsterous Scales,” are renderings of the elevation of The Glob Theater.

Near the center is a logo for “Sal’s Barfalo Wings” — could this be for a restaurant or something else?

A long piece of art features several former Muppets Courtyard façades updated with scale details and new signage. Most of the signage is illegible but we can see:

  • Tuskmon
  • Hidden City Café
  • Art’s Gallery
  • Optometrist
  • Bootique

Some of these are also confirmed with sticky notes. One reads:

Hidden City Cafe [with a checkmark]

Another lists Tony’s Grossery and Mike and Sulley’s. The famous pair are pictured on a billboard (with a vent blocking Mike’s face).

A smaller piece of art, placed next to a photo of a brick wall, depicts a doorway with an eye above it and pipes to the side. There’s a sticker of a saxophone with two mouthpieces.

That small piece of art may be depicting Mike and Sulley’s apartment building door. Another sketch, next to the “Mike and Sulley’s” sticky note, shows them at a similar door.

There are two images that appear to be from Monsters, Inc. showing a Monstropolis street and Tony’s Grossery.

A dark piece shows how illuminated windows may create monster faces at night. A sticky note lists monster motifs:

  • Eyes
  • Tooth
  • Horns

More facades are pictured on another piece of art, with signs reading:

  • Burger Master
  • Video
  • Bath & Body

A black and white piece depicts different potential doorbells, alongside colored artwork of “Monster Inspired” pedestrian objects like trash cans and mailboxes. There’s also a Monstropolis Postal Service logo nearby.

At the very bottom of the cork board is a large sketch of Monsters, Incorporated along with an image of Mike and Sulley inside and blue swatches. Covering Mike’s face is a sketch of a three-headed bird.

Our first up-close look at the Harryhausen’s facade is no surprise — it looks just like the film and is accompanied by iamges of monsters inside.
