Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a teaser look at the plaza design for Space Mountain Earthrise, a new attraction being built at Tokyo Disneyland.
Plaza Design for Space Mountain Earthrise
In the video, a Disney Imagineer is standing in front of a gray rock wall. The wall is composed of layers of large rocks and smaller crumbling rocks. Notably, there is also a large ammonite.
The video then shows two Imagineers looking at the rock wall. Scaffolding can be seen behind them, along with wires and nets.
Construction of Space Mountain Earthrise also includes the creation of a new plaza in front of the attraction. Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, this area — a symbolic portrayal of mankind and nature existing in harmony — connects the Tomorrowland of the past and future.
Walt Disney Imagineering also revealed the ride vehicles, models, and new concept art for Space Mountain Earthrise at Tokyo Disneyland.
Space Mountain Earthrise
Tokyo Disneyland recently revealed the name of the attraction, which is part of a bold reimagining of Tomorrowland and a sizable investment of ¥100 billion. The entire refurbished and expanded area will open in 2027.
Space Mountain Earthrise, the signature attraction of Tomorrowland, will retain the previous version’s concept as an indoor coaster but will be completely transformed. The “Earthrise” in Space Mountain Earthrise refers to the sight of Earth from space as it rises from beyond the Moon’s surface, just as the Sun rises from the horizon.
Space Mountain Earthrise will take guests on a journey through outer space, featuring brand new architecture and a newly developed ride system that combines imaginative storytelling and immersive theatrical effects inspired by the wonders of space. The attraction begins with a powerful launch from Earth, hurtling guests aboard their ride vehicles deep into space with special light and sound effects inspired by various space phenomena.
