Disney has announced an original Kingdom Hearts anime series inspired by the beloved video game franchise.

The announcement was shared on Disney’s Instagram alongside a teaser image titled Kingdom Hearts: The Series. The artwork appears to depict series protagonist Sora carrying his signature Keyblade.

“Ready for a new adventure? 💛 An original Kingdom Hearts anime series inspired by the beloved video game franchise is coming soon to Disney Channel and Disney+,” Disney wrote.

No release date, episode count, cast, production studio, or story details have been announced at this time.

First released in 2002, Kingdom Hearts is the long-running action role-playing game franchise created through a collaboration between Disney and Square Enix. The series follows Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy as they travel among worlds inspired by Disney films, facing the Heartless and other threats while searching for Sora’s friends, Riku and Kairi.
