More details have been revealed for Pixar’s Coco 2, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning film, Coco (2017). The sequel releases in theaters in 2029.
New Coco 2 Details
Benjamin Bratt, the voice actor for Ernesto de la Cruz, revealed new details for Pixar’s sequel to Coco.
Miguel Rivera is slated to return for the sequel, now several years older—as is Ernesto de la Cruz, in a story that will find the three returning to the Land of the Dead as Ernesto seeks his revenge against Miguel.
As of the announcement, Coco 2 is slated for release in November 2029.

Coco 2 was first announced to be in the works back in March 2025, when then-CEO Bob Iger shared the news during an Annual Meeting of Shareholders webcast.
Though the original announcement said the film would be released in 2029, that year has been removed from both the original post on X and on The Walt Disney Company website. It reunites the team behind the original film, including director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina. Mark Nielsen will produce.
Pixar’s Coco (2017) followed Miguel, a 12-year-old who dreamed of becoming a musician despite his family’s music ban. Miguel ventured into the Land of the Dead to learn more about his family history. Coco won the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song (“Remember Me”), as well as the Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture, BAFTA for Best Animated Film, and Critics’ Choice awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Song.
The original film starred Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, Gael García Bernal as Héctor, Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz, Alanna Ubach as Mamá Imelda, Renée Victor as Abuelita, and Ana Ofelia Murguía as Mamá Coco, who has since passed away.
