Disney officially confirmed during the D23 Entertainment Showcase that Zootopia 3 is in production.

Zootopia director Jared Bush appeared on stage to make the official announcement, following rumors of a third film in the works not long after Zootopia 2‘s success. Production is underway on the third installment of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit franchise.

Disney Animation subsequently shared the news on social media:

“The world of Zootopia is about to go to the birds…

Zootopia 3 is officially in the works!”

The reference to birds appears to confirm the significance of a teaser at the end of Zootopia 2. A bird feather gently falls onto Judy Hopp’s windowsill during the film’s post-credit scene, suggesting that avian characters could enter the mammal-dominated world in the next installment.

Disney has not yet announced a release date or provided further story details for Zootopia 3. It also remains unclear how far the film has progressed through the studio’s production process.

The possibility of another sequel had previously been discussed by directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard. Bush explained that an animated feature typically requires four to five years to complete, leading to early estimates that Zootopia 3 could reach theaters around 2030.

Disney has not confirmed whether that projected timeframe remains accurate.
