The Spirit of Vengeance will return to theaters as part of Marvel Studios’ packed 2028 lineup.
Johnny Blaze Joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel’s Ghost Rider, starring Ryan Gosling, will be released July 28, 2028, making it the third Marvel movie scheduled for a 2028 release.
The film will be directed by Shawn Levy and written by Star Wars: Starfighter screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. According to Variety, Gosling will portray Johnny Blaze, the supernatural antihero known as the Spirit of Vengeance.
Gosling follows Nicolas Cage, who portrayed Johnny Blaze in two Ghost Rider films produced by Sony. For more about Gosling’s casting and the character’s history, check out our previous coverage of the new Marvel Studios project.

The new Ghost Rider is one of three Marvel films currently scheduled for 2028. An untitled X-Men movie will arrive first on May 5, followed by Ghost Rider on July 28 and Black Panther 3 on December 15. Another untitled Marvel film, previously listed only as an “Untitled Disney Movie,” is scheduled for November 9, 2029.
The films were included among several release-date updates announced by Disney following D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which took place this past weekend.
Disney’s updated theatrical calendar also includes the live-action remake of Tangled on March 31, 2028, a new original animated film titled Clay on November 22, 2028, and Coco 2 on November 21, 2029.
