During a recent visit to EPCOT at Walt Disney World, we noticed some new shingles on several buildings in the Germany Pavilion.
Germany Pavilion Refurbishment Update
Das Kaufhaus has been undergoing an exterior refurbishment over the past month, and since our last update, the old roofing has been replaced with new brightly colored, red-and-brown diamond shingles.
For reference, this is what the roof used to look like at the end of July:
The roof was previously covered in brown scrim, with only one turret uncovered and revealing the red-and-brown diamond shingles.
Other buildings throughout the pavilion are also undergoing roof shingle replacement, with some sections covered in brown scrim, while work on other sections appears to be complete, reflecting the new brightly-colored shingles.
Several roofs appeared to have suffered from rot and damage prior to their replacement; likely the leading factor behind this extensive re-roofing effort across many of the pavilion’s buildings.
Elsewhere in the Germany Pavilion, Stein Haus has been undergoing exterior refurbishment since the end of June. Rolling planters were first installed, quickly followed by beige scrim walls. This area has remained unchanged since our last update.
Crews have been performing brief interior renovations on the gift shops over the past few months. Volkunst Clocks and Crafts is still closed, with several tables blocking the entrance. Weinkeller (wine cellar) is still open, but due to the ongoing exterior refurbishment in the pavilion, guests are redirected to exit through Stein Haus.
The Germany Pavilion restrooms have been closed since mid-July and continue to be walled off with beige construction walls.
The Germany Train Garden was also recently refreshed, with new additions including Snow White’s cottage and a reference to Dreamfinder.
