The pilot of a small banner plane was able to escape after his plane crashed into the water off New Smyrna Beach Thursday.

The crash happened before 11 a.m., according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

The pilot was the only one in the plane and was not hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are working to determine the cause of the crash.
