Jack Kirby, co-creator of many of the most famous Marvel characters in history, now has a plaque in Avengers Campus at Disney’s California Adventure.

Kirby was a comic book artist and is responsible for several Marvel characters, including Captain America, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Avengers, X-Men, and more. He also worked in film and animation.

It was announced at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event this August that Kirby would receive a plaque in Disney’s California Adventure to commemorate his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond.

He joins legend Stan Lee, who also has a plaque in Avengers Campus.

“The person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt a real superhero.”

The post on Disney Parks Instagram states that Kirby’s plaque can be found “near Avengers Campus.”

Before taking the name “Jack Kirby,” he was Jacob Kurtzberg. He grew up in New York, “with a pencil and a big imagination.”

Kurtzberg was known as “the King of Comics,” drawing and creating universes realized today in comics, films, and theme parks.

“Kirby Crackle,” the radioactive-slime-shimmer that trails along the streets in Disney parks around the world, is his “signature cosmic energy effect” meant to augment the superhero, sci-fi theming of Marvel-inspired areas.
