The cast and crew of Zootopia have shared their excitement about birds being included in the third installment of the franchise.

‘Zootopia 3’ Birds

“The idea of bringing birds into this world is something that we’ve been excited about for years,” Jared Bush, CCO of Walt Disney Animation Studios, said at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. “I’d say what that means for Nick and Judy, what that means for the world of Zootopia, that’s gonna be the fun surprise I think of this movie.”

While the crew wants to bring back beloved Zootopia characters, Bush explained that the team is going to “be really pushing on this one to bring people some new things.”

Meanwhile, Ke Huy Quan, who voices Gary De’Snake, said that while Gary is a nice character, the birds might be “afraid of him” because he’s a snake.

“I like to think that because of how cool he is that they’ll eventually see who he actually is and be good friends with him,” the actor explained.

The reference to birds appears at the end of Zootopia 2. A bird feather gently falls onto Judy Hopp’s windowsill during the film’s post-credit scene.

Zootopia 3 was announced during the D23 Entertainment Showcase last month.
