Disney accidentally marked Chef Oscar Martinez as deceased and now he cannot receive retirement funds or medical insurance.

Martinez was the longest tenured employee of Disneyland Resort when he retired in 2017. He had worked as a chef at Carnation Café for 60 years.

This week, he wrote in a Facebook post that Disney Benefits, Disneyland, Fidelity Investments, and Cigna mistakenly marked him as dead on July 31, 2026.

“As of today, I have not received any of my retirement funds or medical insurance due to this error,” he explained. “We are now in month two of this situation, and these entities have still not resolved anything or provided an explanation as to what happened with my accounts. My spouse has been calling and emailing these entities to figure out why this happened. My spouse even mentioned that if she needs to take me to the park in person to acknowledge that I am alive, she will and yet it was said that it WAS NOT necessary.”

Martinez added, “I am 91 years old, alive, and thriving. You may even see me in the park this weekend.”

He concluded the post, “We are speaking out and demanding that this issue be resolved immediately. I depend heavily on my hydration and medications, yet my health insurance was taken away. I have worked with Disneyland for many decades, and this is how I am being treated. If I am truly considered deceased by the company, then Disney, please at least place the Main Street window that was promised to me. Disney makes things right!”

Martinez’s wife, June, commented, “This situation has brought us both so much emotional distress. On top of everything happening Fidelity has been sending me widow benefits paychecks ! Disney you need to fix your Error !”

She shared photos on her own page of a Vital Statistics search performed by an Orange County clerk confirming Martinez was alive, alongside a condolences letter from Disney Benefits.
