The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Tropical Depression 5 in the northern Gulf to Tropical Storm Edouard as the system moves toward the Texas and Louisiana coastline. If the system becomes a tropical storm, it would be named Edouard.

As of 8 p.m., the system was located 140 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It was moving WNW at 5 mph.

The system is expected to remain relatively short-lived, with landfall anticipated along the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coast on Tuesday.

No threat to Florida

This system poses no threat to Florida. The main impacts will instead be focused along portions of the southwestern Louisiana and Upper Texas coasts, where heavy rainfall is expected during the next couple of days.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the northwestern Gulf Coast from Port Bolivar, Texas, to the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line in Louisiana.
