Expect a better chance for showers and storms heading into the weekend as a disturbance we have been tracking for several days moves across the state.
For Friday, rain chances remain around 30% to 40% for much of the interior, with higher chances closer to the coast. A few showers may move inland from the Atlantic during the morning, followed by additional showers and storms developing later in the day.
A few storms could become strong during the afternoon and evening. Gusty winds of 40 to 50 mph, frequent lightning, small hail and locally heavy rain will be possible. Some spots could pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain in a short period of time.
Outside of the storms, northeast winds will remain noticeable, with gusts occasionally reaching 20 to 25 mph.
Temperatures stay right where we would expect them for mid-September. Orlando will reach around 89 degrees Friday, which is close to normal for this time of year. Coastal communities will generally stay in the mid to upper 80s.
Wetter weekend ahead
The mid-level low that we have been watching will slowly move overhead and then toward the eastern Gulf this weekend. Circulation around the low will pull deeper moisture into Central Florida, pushing rain chances into the 60% to 70% range Saturday and Sunday.
Showers will be possible near the coast during the morning, with more widespread showers and storms developing inland later in the day. A few stronger storms will remain possible, along with pockets of heavy rain.
Temperatures will not change much through the weekend, with upper 80s to around 90 inland and slightly cooler readings near the coast.
Fall arrives Tuesday, but temperatures stay warm
The unsettled pattern will linger into the beginning of next week as plenty of moisture remains over Florida. Scattered to numerous afternoon and evening storms will remain possible Monday and Tuesday.
Astronomical fall officially begins Tuesday. Highs will remain close to normal for late September, with upper 80s to around 90 degrees expected across much of Central Florida.
