Central Florida will see a chance for afternoon storms today before a cold front brings cooler temperatures and gusty winds this weekend. The bigger change will be along the coast, where rough surf and dangerous rip currents are expected to persist into early next week.

Friday

Scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon and evening, with rain chances around 50% to 70%. A few storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy downpours.

Highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s, with humid conditions making it feel closer to 100 degrees.

Weekend-earlyweek

A cold front will push south through Central Florida, bringing another chance for showers and storms early Saturday.

Winds will strengthen from the north and northeast, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph possible, especially along the coast.

Behind the front, temperatures will drop, with highs falling into the mid-70s to low 80s Sunday and Monday.

Overnight lows will dip into the 60s for many inland areas, while coastal locations stay a little warmer.

Northeast winds will remain breezy to windy into early next week. While rain chances decrease Sunday, occasional showers will continue to move onshore, especially near the coast.

Marine hazards

Strong onshore winds will create rough surf, large breaking waves, and a high risk of life-threatening rip currents at area beaches. Waves could reach 9 to 12 feet, increasing the risk of beach erosion through multiple high tide cycles.
