A Lady Lake woman is accused of using her vehicle to threaten two bicyclists during a confrontation on Conservation Trail, according to a Fruitland Park Police Department arrest affidavit.

Jill Allison Vernon, 58, was arrested March 22 and faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one count of resisting an officer without violence, court records show.

According to the affidavit, officers responded to an altercation around 7 p.m. after two bicyclists reported that a white Mercedes convertible approached them at a high rate of speed. One of the bicyclists told officers he gestured for the driver to slow down, after which the driver allegedly yelled profanities and made an obscene gesture.

The second bicyclist told officers the vehicle later returned and approached her from behind, forcing her into the grass to avoid being struck, according to the affidavit. The driver then allegedly swerved in front of the other bicyclist and entered a yard, nearly striking his leg.

The bicyclists told officers the driver continued shouting at them and later accelerated backward toward them as they tried to pass, forcing them into another driveway. Both said they feared they would be hit, the affidavit states.

Officers identified Vernon as the primary aggressor and accused her of trying to use the vehicle as a deadly weapon, according to the affidavit. When officers told her she was under arrest, she allegedly fled into her home and resisted as officers attempted to handcuff her. Body-worn video shows Vernon being taken into police custody.

Court records show Vernon pleaded no contest to a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was ordered to spend 90 days in jail and will have to complete 150 hours of community service.
