Disney has shared details for both rides that will be in Villains Land at Magic Kingdom. The land, still in its very beginning stages, was announced at the D23 event in 2024.
Maleficent Coaster & Boat Ride
As previously announced, there will be two attractions. We now know the first is a thrilling coaster experience where guests will encounter Maleficent herself as they race through an enchanted briar around her mountaintop fortress. There will be new elements that Disney has never attempted before on a Disney coaster.
A new piece of concept art for the attraction portrays a high-speed coaster through Maleficent’s ruined fortress. Its ride vehicles resemble black dragons, complete with horns, scales, wings, and glowing green eyes. The train races past Maleficent herself as she stands atop the crumbling battlements, with green flames burning from the surrounding towers.
Twisted thorns, broken arches, distant castle spires, and smoky skies establish the attraction’s foreboding setting. The art’s decorative inscription describes Maleficent as issuing an “invitation” and posing a challenge to guests brave enough to enter her enchanted fortress.
The second will be a dark ride where guests enter the Evil Queen’s palace and go deep down into the catacombs. There will be the host, the Magic Mirror, who will take guests into his mystical Mirror Realm where visions of favorite villains will be conjured. Special effects and show sets will contribute to a very theatrical attraction.
More concept art revealed during the showcase depicts the new dark ride. Guests are shown traveling aboard a large, ornate boat through swirling green and purple magical energy, surrounded by fractured mirror-like portraits of Disney Villains.
The artwork features the Magic Mirror, Cruella de Ville, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, Scar, and Ursula overlooking the ride vehicle. Decorative text promises that those bold enough to follow the Magic Mirror through its realm will see “reflections of what may come to pass.”
Villains Land
Disney confirmed the name of the land is Villains Land. It is going to be massive — on the scale of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. There will be places to eat, places to shop, and places to have a little villainous fun. The backstory involves a cursed wishing well.
