Construction continues to progress at the new Tropical Americas land being built at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Aerial photos shared by @bioreconstruct recently shows that the decorative facade on the new Indiana Jones attraction is starting to be installed.

The colorful facade pieces feature red stone with decorative scroll details covered in bright blue paint.
As indicated by the yellow arrow in this photo, cables were attached at the top to lift the facade pieces into place.
Only the top and bottom third of the temple have received the new facade sections. The middle section is still just barebones structure. While the front of the facade is covered in red and blue paint, the back of the facade is crumbling brown rock.
The new Indiana Jones attraction replaces DINOSAUR. Much of the surrounding area of the former DinoLand, U.S.A. area has been dug up with piles of dirt everywhere. Sections are cordoned off with orange construction webbing.
As bioreconstruct noted, the facade pieces were created and painted backstage over several months at the Disney Imagineering offices located near Animal Kingdom.
At D23 a few weeks ago, we got a first look at the temple design with this miniature ride model. So far, the new facade pieces match the design of the model.
Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent
The new attraction will send guests into a mysterious Maya temple near a once-water-filled underground cave. According to local legend within the attraction’s story, the passage leads to the Maya Underworld and is protected by the imposing Tsukán.
Guests will be pulled through a portal into the Underworld, where they will encounter monstrous bats, giant scorpions, fire, and multiple appearances by the serpent. Disney has indicated that the adventure will culminate in a major confrontation with the Tsukán.
Disney Parks Blog described the finished serpent as a gigantic Audio-Animatronic figure that will tower over riders during its appearance within the attraction.
The ride will feature an original Indiana Jones story created specifically for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Harrison Ford will also serve as the model for the Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figure, marking the first time his likeness as the character has appeared in a Disney Parks attraction.
