A car crashed into a daycare and left as many as three children and up to two adults injured on Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Officials with the agency told News 6 that the incident happened at 1211 N. Pine Hills Road.

Troopers explained the incident happened just before 3 p.m., when the car — a 2003 Honda CR-V — was heading south on Pine Hills Road approaching Elinore Drive.

But for unknown reasons, the driver — identified only as a 79-year-old Orlando man — ran off the roadway, passing over the median and northbound lanes before striking the daycare, troopers added.

The driver, at least three children, and one other adult inside the daycare were hospitalized in the aftermath, the FHP reported.

The crash did cause all lanes to be shut down, but they have since reopened.

Following the crash, an Orange County Division of Building Safety inspector responded to the property and determined the building cannot be occupied until necessary repairs and required permits are completed.

“The safety of children and the public is a priority for Orange County,” the division said in a statement.

No additional information has been provided at this time.
