The Mesoamerican pyramid exterior of EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion is looking more colorful as workers refresh one of World Showcase’s most distinctive structures.

Mexico Pavilion Receiving Refreshed Paint

Scaffolding around the pyramid has become a familiar sight as exterior refurbishments have been ongoing for months. However, behind one tangle of platforms we spotted some bright new paintwork.

The pyramid, which is based on the Aztec Temple of Quetzalcoatl in Teotihuacan, features dimensional reliefs and animal-shaped sculptures around and across the sides of the structure. These are the pieces being painted.

In contrast to the pyramid’s natural shades, these decorative accents stand out with bolder, reddish-brown hues and bright turquoise highlights. While these colors are original to the structure, they have faded significantly over the years in the Florida sun, so they’re being restored to their former vibrancy.
