Disney has announced new details for Harryhausen’s in Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Monsters, Inc. restaurant replaces Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, part of the new Monstropolis land.

The restaurant is named for the octopus-like monster, Harryhausen, the sushi chef and owner of the upscale Japanese restaurant of the same name in Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. Mike Wazowski takes Celia there for her birthday, but their romantic dinner is interrupted when Sulley arrives with Boo hidden inside a takeout container.

After Boo is accidentally revealed, the restaurant erupts into chaos as frightened patrons flee and the Child Detection Agency descends on the building, sealing it beneath a containment dome. The character’s name pays tribute to legendary stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen.

According to the new details from Disney, a visit to Harryhausen’s will spotlight the famed sushi chef brought to life here as a new Audio-Animatronics figure. His many tentacles will apparently animate similar to his film appearance, as he works to whip up delicious-looking Monster-worthy creations. Disney also promises there will be “more than just sushi on the menu.”  

Disney said the restaurant will feature “A menu unlike anything else we offer at Walt Disney World. It will be a great place to bring your Schmoopsie-poo for a romantic meal.”

Monstropolis has taken over the former Muppets Courtyard and will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater.
