Disney Vacation Club has changed their reservation modification rules, effectively eliminating “reservation walking.”

DVC Reservation Modification Rules Changed

DVC Fan reports that modifications to travel dates and room types on a confirmed reservation can now only be made when the original check-out date is within 11 months of the modification request.

With “reservation walking,” a DVC Member would make a difficult reservation by booking a seven-night stay days or weeks ahead of the dates they actually wanted. This would ensure dates beyond the reservation’s check-in date were held. The Member could then repeatedly modify the reservation, dropping an earlier night and adding one at the end, until they got the time period they wanted.

The practice has been controversial among Members. DVC Member Experiences and Club Management VP Shannon Sakaske said in 2024 that they were looking at how “walking” impacted the booking process for all Members.

The update helps reduce, if not completely eliminate, “walking” by requiring the check-out date, not just the check-in date, to be within 11 months.

Members can still update guest information or cancel the reservation at any time.
