Duke Energy Florida customers to see lower rates next year. Here’s how much

Duke Energy Florida customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month are expected to see bills drop by $33 in January 2027 compared with January 2026, the utility said after the Florida Public Service Commission approved its request to lower rates.
The company said an innovative tax strategy actually helped it avoid a base-rate increase that had been scheduled for 2027.
Separately, residential bills for that level of use are expected to fall about 95 cents from December 2026 to January 2027.
In March, residential customers are scheduled to receive an additional $10 reduction per 1,000 kWh. Duke Energy Florida says it applies that temporary reduction each March through November, when energy use is often higher.
Commercial and industrial customers are expected to see reductions of 0.9% – 3.8%, depending on factors including their rate and electricity use.
“Duke Energy Florida is committed to delivering real, tangible value for the essential service we provide,” state president Melissa Seixas said in a statement.
She said the company also plans to invest in cost-effective renewable energy and infrastructure upgrades intended to reduce outages and speed restoration after storms.
The utility says customers can find information about free home and business energy assessments, flexible payment plans and other assistance here.
