A special effects artist and Disney fan shared their creative homemade Halloween costume of Haunted Mansion’s famous Hatbox Ghost that even recreates its signature special effect.

Instagram user sharp.shot.efx, who describes themselves as a “freelance SFX artist,” created the bespoke costume of the iconic Haunted Mansion character. As they mimic the famous animatronic’s turning and bobbing movement, the glowing face on the mask disappears and reappears in the hatbox prop.
Their caption reads:
Grim Grinning Ghosts come out to socialize!
It would be foolish of me to not share this video again when we’re halfway through October.
The Hatbox Ghost is one of my favorite things I’ve made so far, and I’m hoping to give it an overhaul in the future to compete once again.
Their costume was also shared by the Hollywood Horror Museum, a nonprofit film history museum in Los Angeles that described the creation as “absolutely brilliant”:

While the Hatbox Ghost isn’t among them, Spirit Halloween debuted a collection of Haunted Mansion costumes so you can dress up as a denizen of the famous attraction, including Constance Hatchaway, Alexander Nitrokoff, Sally Slater, and more.
