Flagler Beach commissioners are scheduled to consider a proposal that would restrict where certain larger vehicles can park in residential areas.

Ordinance 2026-23 would update the city’s rules for overnight parking and truck parking. The proposal targets cargo vans, box trucks, buses and concession vehicles rated above one ton, according to information provided for the meeting.

City Manager Dale Marten says the changes are intended to clarify the rules—not keep residents from parking recreational vehicles and trailers in their driveways.

“We are a recreational community. We do have boaters. We do have RVs, we have visitors. So let’s make it easy for the people that live in town to use those vehicles,” Marten said.

Flagler Beach resident Pat Ferry, who parks a 38-foot RV in his driveway, said he is concerned about restrictions affecting people who rely on work vehicles.

“People make a living with their vehicles,” Ferry said. “I think they actually have a right” to park company vehicles in their yards.

The ordinance is scheduled for a first reading at the City Commission meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. A first reading is not final approval; the proposal would need a second reading.
