A Punta Gorda woman was arrested after a video was discovered that revealed her engaging in a “sexual act” with the family’s pet dog, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release on Wednesday, deputies said they began investigating after learning about social media posts that accused a woman of engaging in the act.

“Investigators made contact with the person who made the allegations and obtained sworn statements and digital evidence of the claims,” the release reads. “The digital evidence was determined to be from a home surveillance system inside the residence.”

On Tuesday, the woman — identified as Malia Nummerdor, 38 — was interviewed about the footage, confirming that she was indeed shown in the video with the family dog, deputies noted.

According to investigators, the video showed Nummerdor partially nude, and the dog was “positioned in a manner consistent with sexual activity.”

But when pressed about what happened, Nummerdor denied anything sexual occurring, though she was unable to provide a consistent explantion for what was seen in the footage, detectives said.

She then reportedly asked for an attorney, ending the interview.

Now, Nummerdor faces a charge of sexual activity involving animals. Jail records show she was released on Thursday on a bond of $35,000.

“There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words. This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior,” Sheriff Bill Prummell said. “No animal should ever be subjected to this kind of conduct, and you can be sure that we will take action when we learn about it here in Charlotte County. And then to smile in the mugshot? I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this.”
