Titusville Mayor Andrew Connors praised the “swift and professional” response by the Titusville Police Department (TPD) and regional law enforcement partners during a critical incident Monday night at Sand Point Park.

The incident began around 6 p.m. Monday when Daytona Beach Police Department officers responded to Reena Drive following reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find an adult female deceased inside the home, officials said.

Daytona Beach detectives identified the suspect as 54-year-old Robert Reyes Jr. and shared information about him and his vehicle with surrounding law enforcement agencies.

According to Titusville police, the city’s Flock Safety camera system alerted officers when the suspect vehicle entered Titusville. Officers were then able to quickly locate the vehicle, officials said.

But when police tried to pull the vehicle over, it fled, the department revealed.

Police said Reyes Jr. crashed the vehicle later near Sand Point Park.

However, the police department also confirmed that no law enforcement officers fired weapons during the incident.

Preliminary evidence suggests Reyes died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was also recovered from the vehicle. The Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office will make the final determination on the cause of death, police said.
