Hundreds of people gathered Saturday at Calvary Church to remember Brevard County Agent Kevin Morris, a husband, father, coach and law enforcement officer killed while responding to a shooting call.
Morris died after a wrong-way driver collided head-on with his vehicle on Interstate 95. Both drivers were killed in the crash.
Inside the church, Morris’ family, friends and colleagues honored his life and the impact he had on those around him.
His children shared emotional memories of their father and the role he played in their lives. “This next chapter of my life without picking up the phone to call you,” one of Morris’ children said during the service. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to face the hard calls, or the difficult cases, or the moments when I simply just need to tell my dad and have him tell me that everything’s going to work out and it’ll be okay.”
The tribute reflected Morris’ roles beyond law enforcement, including as a coach, husband, father and grandfather.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Morris’ loss has left a major void in the agency. “Kevin is now looking down on us this morning, and if he didn’t know before, he now knows how much he was loved, how much he was respected, how much he taught us, how much he meant to us, and more than anything else, how much we miss him already,” Ivey said during the service.
After the service, law enforcement agencies from across Florida gathered for a final tribute to Morris.
Ivey said the pain of losing an agency member is deeply felt. “You know, when an agency loses somebody, you hurt,” Ivey said. “There’s a huge void in your life. And so if he was standing here right now, I would tell him I’m proud of him.”
Morris is survived by his mother, his wife, three children and his grandchildren.
