Police in Palm Bay are stepping up their patrols around the city’s schools after a phoned-in threat.

Brevard Public Schools said the phoned-in threat is believed to be a swatting attempt, but just in case, the district is working with police to increase that presence.

The district is notifying families at those area schools. There are at least 20 public and charter schools in the area.

Swatting is when a false report is filed to try to prompt an emergency response.

Police are investigating.
