Disney has shared when Disney Worldbuilders, a brand-new feature documentary about Disney Parks directed by Leslie Iwerks, is coming to Disney+. The official trailer has also been released.

Disney Worldbuilders will premiere at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event then release on Disney+ on August 20. The film explores “how Disney’s most beloved stories are translated from the screen into one-of-a-kind, real-world experiences that people never want to leave.”

In Disney Worldbuilders, Iwerks sits down with some of the key figures who have helped shape many of Disney’s most enduring stories, including:
- Bob Iger: Former CEO and Senior Advisor, The Walt Disney Company
- Josh D’Amaro: CEO, The Walt Disney Company
- Jennifer Lee: Academy Award-winning writer/director of Frozen
- Dave Filoni: President and Chief Creative Officer, Lucasfilm
- James Cameron: Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Disney Legend
- Jared Bush: Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Animation Studios
- Jon Favreau: Filmmaker, executive producer, and Disney Legend
- Kevin Feige: President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, Marvel
- Pete Docter: Chief Creative Officer, Pixar Animation Studios
Through personal reflections on their earliest inspirations, pivotal moments along the way, and the formative Disney memories they’ve carried with them over the years, these storytellers share the experiences that have helped shape their creative journeys.
The film also offers a behind-the-scenes look at what’s coming next, including rare glimpses of new lands, areas, and experiences currently taking shape. Viewers will have a first look at where Disney’s worldbuilding goes from here, exploring how new worlds, characters, and more continue to come to life across the company.
Iwerks is the Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker behind Disneyland Handcrafted, The Pixar Story, The Imagineering Story, and The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story. She’s the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, an original Disney animator and co-creator of Mickey Mouse, and daughter of Disney Legend Don Iwerks, who recently passed away.
