A man died after being stabbed near DeLand on Thursday night, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said that the stabbing happened near West Beresford Road and South High Street around 8:30 p.m.

The victim, identified as 55-year-old John J. Strobel, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the suspect’s identity remains unknown, deputies added.

“Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances and canvassing for evidence,” the release reads. “At this time, no suspect is in custody.”

Deputies said Strobel lived in a camp near the area of the incident.
