Disney’s Hollywood Studios Cast Members have signed a beam that will become part of the Monsters Inc. Door Vault coaster in Monstropolis. The longtime Disney tradition gives the Cast who bring the park to life a permanent place inside its newest headliner. Photos from the event show a black roller coaster beam crowded with names.

Monstropolis has enjoyed plenty of visible progress this month, from the first entrance bricks to themed paint on Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza. This newest milestone is about the Cast Members instead of the buildings. Hollywood Studios Cast Members got to sign a beam headed for the land’s headliner, the Monsters Inc. Door Vault coaster.

Cast Members Leave Their Mark on Monstropolis

Disney describes the signing as a big moment for the new land. “The beam signing gives cast members the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the future of Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” Disney says.

White signatures cover the black beam from end to end, some in neat print and others in big looping scrawl. Mixed in among them are die-cut stickers shaped like the Monsters Inc. doors, with Sulley and Mike peeking around the frame. Cast members wrote their names in the open door space.

The photos also show cast members in costume snapping selfies in front of the beam.

Beam signings have become a familiar sight as Walt Disney World’s big projects rise. Animal Kingdom cast members signed a steel beam for the Encanto attraction in January. Back in 2017, Hollywood Studios cast signed the beam that formed the highest point in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Door Vault Coaster Construction Keeps Moving

The beam joins a coaster that has come a long way this year. Disney installed the first piece of track in June, connecting it to the support steel inside the show building. By October, aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct showed more track inside and blue walls covering part of the building.

The Door Vault coaster will be the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. A vertical lift will hoist riders into the air, just like the doors in the film. Monstropolis will open in phases starting in 2027, led by the Glob Theater, Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, Harryhausen’s, and the Scareporium. Disney has not announced an opening date for the roller coaster, but we expect it to follow in 2028.
