Some residents living near the Bay Road roundabout in Mount Dora say a new traffic pattern has brought a steady stream of headlights shining into their homes at night.

Carlos Medina, who lives near the roundabout, told News 6 the light and traffic are constant.

“My bedroom lights up all night. All night downstairs lights up all night,” Medina said. “We have our curtains. We have everything, but it doesn’t matter.”

Lake County built the Bay Road roundabout as part of a traffic detour while a larger roundabout project is under construction nearby at Eudora Road and Old U.S. Highway 441.

But neighbors say the detour now runs through their neighborhood, increasing traffic, light and noise.

“Start? It never stops. It’s all day,” Medina said when asked how long the traffic lasts.

On Tuesday, Lake County commissioners approved up to $30,000 for privacy fencing at three affected homes.

A county document states, “Property owners will be required to obtain three (3) written quotes from licensed fencing contractors, with a maximum cost of $10,000 per property. The County will make direct payment to the lowest-priced contractor; however, all work will remain strictly between the property owner and the contractor.”

Medina’s home is among the homes named, though he believes the fencing will only help so much.

“It’ll eliminate just part of the problem,” he said. “We still got noise, traffic. It may help with us being out here, but it’s not going to do anything for second floor unless you’re going to put a 20-foot fence in front of my house.”

The county tells News 6 no additional remedy beyond fencing is planned.

County officials say the roundabout will remain, but detour traffic is expected to ease once the Eudora roundabout opens.

That project is not expected to be complete until early 2028, according to a Lake County spokesperson.

On Tuesday, county commissioners also gave direction to staff to draft a policy with recommendations on how to address the issue of possible compensation for businesses such as the ones affected by the Eudora roundabout construction.
