New details have been announced for Jon Favreau’s upcoming Disney+ series starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, including its format, animation style, composer, and release window.

The project will be presented as a three-part miniseries, according to Favreau, who took to the stage during the D23 Entertainment Showcase. The director also revealed that veteran 2D animators were recruited to animate the series.

John Debney was announced as the composer for the series. Debney has an extensive history with Disney, with credits including Hocus Pocus, The Emperor’s New Groove, The Princess Diaries, and Favreau’s 2016 adaptation of The Jungle Book.

The Oswald miniseries also got a release window update, with its premiere scheduled for Disney+ in February 2027. Further details about the series’ precise release schedule, its story, or its voice cast were not immediately announced.

Part of the preview shown during the showcase, however, appeared to show Oswald in Walt’s Burbank office. A closer look at a still from the preview was shared by Walt Disney Studios on X.

Guests attending the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 will also receive collectible Oswald cards as they leave the presentation.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927, predating the debut of Mickey Mouse. Disney regained the rights to the character in 2006, and Oswald has since appeared in theme park merchandise, anniversary celebrations, and projects including the Epic Mickey video game series.
