After the 79-year-old owner of Daytona College was reported dead last week, investigators have announced a new murder charge for the man accused of beating him.

The incident was reported via 911 on Sept. 20 at Daytona College, when owners Roger and Nancy Bradley spotted a suspicious car in a nearby parking lot while responding to a burglary alarm, investigators said.

Police say the suspect — identified as Michael Lavar Hightower, 40 — came out, struck Nancy Bradley with his car, then got out and beat both victims.

On Sept. 30, police confirmed Roger Bradley had died.

A CHAOTIC ARREST

Body-camera video shows officers arriving at the parking lot to a frantic scene.

“I have two people on the ground bleeding,” an officer is heard saying in the footage.

Officers can then be heard trying to get a response from the victims.

“Hey! Can you hear me? Can you hear me?” an officer says in the video.

A second video released by police shows the arrest of Hightower following the attack. Officers can be heard demanding he stop.

“Hands up! Get on the ground!” an officer shouts in the video.

Police say Hightower fled the scene and officers were forced to chase and taser him to take him into custody.

“Did we get a good search on him?” an officer asks in the footage, as Hightower can be heard making noises in the background.

OFFICER SHOT AT HOSPITAL

Hightower was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but police said that when he was uncuffed for a CT scan, he began fighting with an officer, grabbed the officer’s weapon from his holster, and shot the officer in the leg.

News 6 has requested the full body-camera video from inside the hospital and will share it on air and at ClickOrlando.com once it is received.

The officer who was shot is expected to recover and has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile, Bradley’s wife, Nancy Bradley, 74, remained in critical condition as of Sept. 30, police said.

Hightower originally faced charges of attempted murder, attempted murder of a police officer, and aggravated assault, among others.

On Wednesday, though, News 6 has learned that Hightower now faces a murder charge, as well.
