New Smyrna Beach police are investigating allegations that a New Smyrna Beach High School employee had “inappropriate online communications” with someone representing themselves as a minor.

The investigation began on Aug. 7. Officers say they immediately opened an investigation, and the employee has not been on campus during the current school year when students are present.

Detectives continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether a crime was committed. Police said the investigation remained active and additional details were limited.

A video related to the allegations was posted online and circulated on social media, according to police.

News 6 reached out to the district to ask about the state of the employee’s job and if there is anything they have to say about the investigation.

“Volusia County Schools is aware of the NSBPD’s active investigation involving a New Smyrna Beach High School employee. Because this is an ongoing law enforcement matter, the district cannot comment further.”
