Oopsies! Getting from your Disney World hotel to Disney Springs might be a bit harder now.

Old Key West

We’re always bragging about Disney World transportation because it really is that good (okay, and fun. We may turn into little kids when we ride the monorail). It helps us get from point A to point B for free and keeps our Disney days running smoothly. A new closure just hit this resort, and boat transportation will look a little different.

The Sassagoula River Cruise at Disney’s Old Key West, which takes guests to Disney Springs, is temporarily closed. It will be unavailable until November 1st, and bus transportation to Disney Springs will be available during this time. Boo! We hate a transportation closure.

Old Key West Dock

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the boat closed for maintenance. Actually, it happened just a few months ago! It was closed from late July to early August, but I guess there’s more work to do and refurbishments to do.

Closed!

If you’re heading to Disney Springs, the buses are probably your easiest bet on getting there quickly and efficiently, but if the weather is gorgeous and you have some time to kill before a dinner reservation, you can walk. It takes about 45 minutes, and if you see rain clouds in the distance, we recommend bringing your rain gear. You can always walk one way and take the bus back the other.

Disney Springs Bus Station

Should you skip Disney Springs entirely if there’s no boat? Well, we don’t think so! If you’re on a shorter trip, you might not have time to check it out, but we usually go on our arrival days after we drop off our bags and look for something to do. We love to grab dinner and catch some of the music and entertainment. We also tend to do quite a bit of shopping so we can get our Disney souvenirs at the beginning of our trip.
