An Orange County circuit judge who was accused of making more than 900 political contributions has resigned from the bench.

Diana Tennis, who has served as a judge in Orange and Osceola counties since 2015, was accused last year of contributing approximately $29,000 to Democratic candidates and political organizations.

The state Judicial Qualifications Commission alleged that the contributions violated Florida’s Code of Judicial Conduct.

Tennis had agreed to a public reprimand, records show, but the Florida Supreme Court rejected the proposed agreement in June.

In a subsequent order, the state’s highest court said it would impose a suspension and fine in addition to the reprimand.

Tennis’ resignation takes effect Friday, according to a court spokesperson. Her term was scheduled to end in January, and she was not seeking reelection.

“Judge Tennis is an outstanding judge who has diligently served the Central Florida community with distinction and integrity for many years,” said Warren Lindsey, Tennis’s attorney. “Her retirement will be a loss to the community.”
